Debt Management Program

What is a Debt Management Program (DMP)?
After your initial counseling session, you may decide that a DMP is right for you. This program is designed to help people pay off significant debt. DMPs are widely endorsed by major creditors across the country. When clients enroll in DMP programs, some creditors may

  • Bring accounts current
  • Lower interest rates
  • Forgive late or over limit fees

How does a DMP work?
When you sign up for a DMP, Consumer Credit Counseling Service (CCCS) will act on your behalf with your creditors, negotiating with them to establish a reasonable and mutually acceptable repayment plan. Once your DMP has started, you will be able to make one convenient monthly deposit to us, which we then send to your creditors.

The average DMP client is able to pay off all debts in 48 months.

Do You Need a DMP?
If you have credit card, medical bills or other unsecured debt that is hard to manage, a DMP may be the best way to get your finances under control. A CCCS counselor can help you decide.

Guide to Financial Health Kit
When you enroll in a DMP, you will receive a free copy of our Guide to Financial Health Kit. It contains helpful information on a variety of financial topics that will help you better understand your finances. You can use it as a resource when and how you wish. The kit provides you with a hands-on learning experience that includes:

  • Goal-Setting Worksheet
  • Needs vs. Wants Worksheet
  • Income and Expense Worksheet
  • Fritter Finder Worksheets
  • Simple Steps to Save Money Brochure
  • Basic Budgeting Tips and Worksheet
  • 16 Rules about Choosing What Debt to Pay First
  • Building a Better Credit Report Booklet

Fees
$25 Initial fee + $25 monthly fee for administration costs. CCCS doesn’t deny service if you are unable to pay. In cases of financial hardship, fees can be reduced or eliminated.

Payment Methods
For your convenience CCCS offers
BillPayer 2000, our preferred payment method. It’s an easy payment process that can help you avoid missed or late payments and prevent additional creditor fees while building a good payment history through the program. We also accept money orders, cashier’s checks and payroll deduction. Remember to include your client id number on money orders or cashier’s checks. CCCS does not accept personal checks, online checks or cash.
